BILL DANOFF AND HIS WIFE TAFFY HAD NEVER BEEN TO WEST VIRGINIA.  THEY WERE INSPIRED
TO WRITE "COUNTRY ROADS" BY LOOKING AT PICTURE  POSTCARDS OF WEST VIRGINIA
SENT BY A FRIEND WHO LIVED  THERE.

THE SONG WAS UNFINISHED WHEN JOHN DENVER MET THE DANOFFS.  HE HAD NEVER BEEN TO WEST VIRGINIA EITHER,  BUT THE LYRICS SEEMED TO MEAN SOMETHING TO THE NEW SINGER.  THE DANOFFS AND DENVER STAYED UP THAT
NIGHT AND WORKED ON REARRANGING
LINES AND FINISHING NEW LINES.

JOHN DENVER TOLD THEM HE WANTED
THIS NEW SONG ON HIS FIRST ALBUM.
IT WAS RELEASED IN APRIL 1971.
FOUR MONTHS LATER, THE SONG
CERTIFIED A MILLION SELLER!

COUNTRY ROADS, TAKE ME HOME
DLS    5-4-2000
Almost heaven, West Virginia,
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.
Life is old there, older than the trees,
Younger than the mountains, blowin' like a breeze.

Country roads take me home,
To the place I belong.
West Virginia, Mountain Momma,
Take me home country roads.
All my memories gather round her,
Miner's lady stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty painted on the sky,
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eyes.

Country roads take me home,
To the place I belong.
West Virginia, Mountain Momma,
Take me home country roads.
I hear her voice in the morning how she calls me,
The radio reminds me of my home far away.
Drivin' down the road I get a feelin',
That I should been home yesterday, yesterday-

Country roads take me home,
To the place I belong.
West Virginia, Mountain Momma,
Take me home country roads.

Country roads take me home,
To the place I belong.
West Virginia, Mountain Momma,
Take me home country roads,
Take me home, down country roads,
Take me home, down country roads.
